Interested in Mobile Apps for Construction?

This have held a special interest for me.  Although many deal with safety, there are others that deal with construction in depth.  These include transferring of daily logs and other forms to a mobile environment, and even having all construction plans on tablets.  These apps help to streamline operations and allow one to more effectively, and more quickly communicate issues faster, cheaper, and more effectively with the office.

Unfortunately, I am not as familiar with them as I should be.  I did discover a great resource that goes over this information, reviews, and assists with how to use these apps.  This person is the Construction App Guru.

So if you interested in learning about apps and mobile devices that can be used on construction projects? Could your company use some advice on how to move from paper based workflows to electronic workflows? Would you read interviews with industry leaders in the development world?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you may want to start following the Construction App Guru. The ConAppGuru hosts a blog dedicated to educating the AEC Community about the uses for technology on construction projects.

You Asked For It – UK Health and Safety Materials

Traffic from the UK was heavy and I received several comments like, “Good materials, but we will have to adapt them to the UK.”  Well, seeing as the traffic was heavy, and this all about the safety of workers on the job, I did a little bit of looking and found where the Queen hides her safety materials.  At least some of them.  So here they are.  Not all, obviously, but, a basic selection.  Now that I have raided her coffers, I will add more in the future.  If people across the pond know of more good materials, feel free to forward and I will post.

For those in the USA and elsewhere – regulations from the UK are normally at, or above what the USA requires.  So instead of doing ‘the minimum,’ why not give this a look see?  It won’t kill you (no pun).

Thank you for yelling at me.

Traffic Has Spiked – Thank You

confused-IT-managerTraffic has spiked to 3 – 4 times the normal daily traffic.  I even had over 400 hits from Mongolia.  Although I certainly appreciate the traffic – I am a bit confused as to what I am doing differently.  Any thoughts?  I am not moderating comments, so feel free to offer thoughts.  I would like to keep the higher traffic – more traffic and more hits, more employees being trained, fewer workers in the world being hurt (or worse).

Thank you!

Buy Quiet – NIOSH – Save Hearing

NIOSH has a ‘buy quiet’ campaign that promotes buying of quiet tools. Here is the link:

http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/buyquiet/default.html

A great document they have (from New York) is a listing of tools AND the sound levels when in use.  In other words, if you purchase tools that produce less noise, your employees (or yourself, for that matter) is protected.  Here is that document:
